Coating build-up
Plating and anodising build up on the surface, and hard anodising grows into the material as well as out of it. Coating build-up changes bore and thread dimensions. Mark critical dimensions and masking requirements on the drawing so coating thickness is included in the dimensional allowance.
Masking
Threads, bearing seats, earth points and mating faces usually need to stay bare. Identify masking areas on the drawing before treatment.
Colour variation
Anodised colour depends on the alloy, the temper and the bath, so two batches of the same part in the same colour will be close but not identical. If parts from different batches will sit next to each other on a visible assembly, say so and they are run together.
