Design guidance

Internal corners

An end mill is round and cannot produce a sharp internal corner. An R3 internal radius is recommended where corner sharpness is not functionally required. Sharper corners with radii below R0.4 can be produced using electrical discharge machining.

Thin walls

Tall, thin walls chatter and deflect under cutting forces, causing dimensional inaccuracy and increasing scrap risk.

Tolerance specifications

ISO 2768-mK is the default unless the drawing says otherwise. Apply tighter tolerances to features that control fit or function. Use the general tolerance for other dimensions.
